Welcome to the PTO!  Whether you are a new family or returning to Herget, we hope you'll help in making this a year to remember for your student. You'll find middle school does not require as much parent involvement as grade school.  One of the best ways for you and your family to help our Huskies is to join the PTO.  There will be opportunities throughout the year to volunteer at our school events; and if you cannot do so, membership contributions go a long way to support them!
Everyone is welcome to attend our quarterly PTO meetings.  Communication is at the center of our board's mission as well as a teamwork approach.  We encourage parents and teachers to share their skills, knowledge, thoughts and ideas with us.  We want to hear your voice and perspective on how to make out school better.  The Principal's Report about the school will also be presented at each meeting.  We look forward to working with you!

Why Does Herget Need a PTO?

Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO) is a nonprofit organization that works to support the school community.  Our primary objective is to provide our students with programs, resources and services that will enrich and maximize the education of each child.

Herget PTO Positions Include:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary

Why Join a PTO CoMMITTEE?

The PTO actively works to provide Herget students with activities and opportunities that enhance their middle school experience.  The PTO does this with parent involvement through committees and working with teachers and staff.  Are you interested in volunteering more, but not sure what you can do?  Join a committee...

  • If you are a member of a committee or the board, you can attend the meetings to share ideas, receive updates and information, and vote on budget costs.

  • Each committee will have a different time commitment.  You get to choose which one suits your needs.  Some committees can even be done from home.

  • Joining a committee is a fun way to become involved in your child's school and make new friends in the community.

  • If you see a friend in charge of a committee, ask if they need help, either as a co-chair or as a volunteer to support their committee.

Where does the money go?

PTO revenue comes from $10 membership dues and fundraising.  Membership dues are encouraged at the start of the school year; but you are able to join throughout the year.  Even if you don't have time to volunteer your membership fee alone will help make Herget a better place.

  • The PTO provides student council with help during the year.
  • We help support the PBIS-Positive Behavior Intervention System.
  • The PTO proudly supports events: Fall and Spring Huskie Hangout Events, the 8th Grade Dance, Food, etc.
  • Teacher Appreciation events that occur during the year to thank the teachers and staff for everything they do for the students of Herget.
  • The PTO pays for insurance to make sure that everyone is safe during sponsored events.
  • In addition, the PTO strives to provide financial resources for the school.  We help with requests for equipment needed for education to support our teachers and students.
  • In the past, contributions have allowed the PTO to help with the purchase of:
    • The Sound System in the Cafeteria
    • Stereo System for the Spanish Department
    • Microscopes Cleaned for the Science Department
    • Prizes for PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System)
    • A Button Making Machine for the Business Makers Club
    • Microphones for Choir
    • Mats for the Athletic Department
    • Enrichment Books for the Band Department
    • Support for the Drama Department
    • Two Snow Cone Machines for Events
